[TRANS] CNBLUE “We’re Like a Puzzle” in Osaka-Jo Hall Concert Report by MNET Japan

CNBLUE, said that their 5th Anniversary Tour has the highest sense of unity!!

4-membered rock band CNBLUE has just celebrated their final tour of 「SPRING LIVE 2016 ~We’re like a puzzle~」in Osaka-Jo Hall on May 31st 2016.

This tour is a Spring Concert for Single “Puzzle” which released on May 11th. Start from Nagoya at Nippon Gaishi Hall on May 22nd, Tokyo at Nippon Budokan on May 26th-27th, and Osaka at Osaka-Jo Hall on May 31st, 3 cities with 4 performances and 40,000 audiences. This live report will tell about the Tokyo Budokan concert on May 27th.

Ever since their Japan major debut stage at Yokohama Arena back in 2011, CNBLUE has been well-known with their center stage that’s surrounded by the audiences. In this tour, rather than having a center stage, it provides a normal position seat for the audiences but with 360 degrees shaped (the seats surrounding the stage, meanwhile the stage is just normal but can be visible in 360degree view). It’s only a simple stage configuration to show-down the performance, rather than relying on the LED monitor video production to set a rock band looks.

The opening starts with a new-released song “Puzzle”. Even it’s CNBLUE’s first wedding song themed, Yonghwa skipped his vocals from the start, he was running around from the main stage through the back of the stage. He made such a distance to the audience seats and stretched his hands to the fans. “I was always at the center of the stage being rotated, but today, instead of rotating, there are 3 persons running around the stage in front of me”, Drummer Minhyuk said. The distance itself has an inevitable excitement.

In addition, for the classic songs “Can’t Stop” and “Hold My Hand”, Yonghwa moved from guitar to piano section, the venue starts to rise and join the song at the chorus part, and then play the nostalgic song of their indie era “Lie”. The new song, of course, made the audiences happy, but also tickles the heart of audience and also surprising since it’s a long-time-ago song for them. At the up-beat rock song “Ryu Can Do It”, Yonghwa enjoyed singing the rap part, he also did the “Mworago” dance during “I’m Sorry” and putting the hands up and down while having a call-and-response session with the audiences, which make the venue explodes. Yonghwa and Jungshin running around the stage’s runway, and made fan’s excitement reach its climax. Yonghwa got sweaty, “It’s like I just took a shower (laughs). You guys always cheer me up, it’s impressing to see it from the top of the stage,” said him proudly with a deep emotion. During Jonghyun’s MC part, a male fan shouted “Saranghaeyo~!”, which means Jonghyun also have male fan (LOL).

In the ‘Ballad Corner’, Jonghyun made a big success, since he has a number of successful ballad song for CNBLUE. After a long time, Jonghyun sang “Eclipse” with a pure vocal and acoustic guitar sound. Yonghwa rushed to the corner and said “I want to dance!” with a high spirit. Jonghyun said “the tension is rising too much”, the fun is also unbearable since it’s been a long time for Yonghwa whose recently active in China for shooting a movie. He also said “Let’s enjoy it all today, it won’t come out again for twice!”, “Hide and Seek” started and he even dance without his guitar. In “Wake up” the fans gone extremely crazy because suddenly six trumpets, trombone, and saxophone horns in any sections (of the stage) and surprised the fans. Each member made themselves as the lecturer for the choreography, but then Jonghyun shows an appreciable dance ability, which makes the audience surprised and yelled “o~” as their voice of admiration. Meanwhile, Jungshin was struggling to dance and everyone cheered him “Good luck~”. Jonghyun tried to change the rhythm of the drum while Minhyuk still dancing at the center of the stage, he said “Everyone, let’s do it!” which also makes audience’s focus moved.  After successfully made such a deep communication with fans during “Wake up”, they then pulling the climax again with the strong bass arrangement on “Lady”, continued with their Korean track “Cinderella” and their latest one “YOU’RE SO FINE”, made fans full of excitement and put them together as a squad in the sense of unity, and also didn’t give them a time to breathe.

At the encore, Yonghwa took the baton to command fans for making a “wave” from the top to the second-floor seats at Budokan Arena, “That’s the best wave ever! Buy the DVD of today’s concert later! You’ll see how good it is” he said with satisfaction. “Budokan has become one”, Jungshin said, “today’s live is appealing. I’ll always say thank you. I filled with a deep emotion to be able to do live with you all together. Since the songs are well-made, it also good to be performed live! Let’s be happy in the future, 10 years, 20 years…even if we’re running all the way for 70 years, we want to sing together with you all. I pray for everyone, I pray for KUMAMOTO. I hope by listening to our music you can do your best in the future. We’ll see you again in LIVE!” and Yonghwa conclude it all with his smile, then closed with the live performance of “YOUNG FOREVER”.

In addition, the members of rookie trainee from FNC Entertainment who join the survival program to be debuted, [d.o.b], appeared as the opening act for the tour. The Band Team performed CNBLUE’s “I’m Sorry” and the Dance Team performed “I’m a Loner” with their own arrangement.

On October, this year, CNBLUE is celebrating their 5th Anniversary of their Japan Major Debut. They start this ‘Anniversary Year’ tour with the new song “Puzzle”. Keep an eye into CNBLUE’s activities more in the future!

[TRANS] N.Flying “Knock Knock” Interview with TVGroove Japan

Korean-born new trend band N.Flying Japan interview!

A new rap-rock and new trend band, N.Flying, was formed in South Korea. N.Flying consist of four members of Seunghyub in vocal and rap, Kwangjin in bass, Chahun in guitar, Jaehyun in drums.

They had their indie debut on October 2013 with a new sound: a hip-hop included in the strong rock beat. On that time, their single “BASKET” ranked 2nd on Oricon Indies chart. It was such an unstoppable momentum as they released their “One n Only” single at the New Year’s Day of 2014, the single ranked first on Tower Records World/Reggae sales ranking.

After such a long-waiting time, finally N.Flying had their Japan major debut decided and release Knock Knock single on February 10th 2016. They are planning to have more activities in Japan in the future.

At this time, TVGroove bring them to have an exclusive interview. The history of how they’re formed, how they like Japanese (language), their relationship with their seniors in the agency, and how they like (or, how is their thoughts) to Japanese fans, are all said.

Q : First of all please introduce yourself

KJ : Hello! I’m bassist Kwon Kwangjin!

JH : I’m the “best” drummer, Kim Jaehyun!

SH : I’m rapper and vocalist Lee Seunghyub!

CH : Hello! I’m guitarist Chahun!

Q : Can you tell me how was the band formed?

JH : We originally have Kwangjin who is a trainee for a long-time. And then I was able to join (the agency) as a trainee when I was young. After that, Chahun and Seunghyub also join. It was when the agency told us that we’re going to be a team (as a band), and at that moment we looked at each other and I feel like “Oh, we are a team! I finally have a team!” Soon after that we started to play by ourselves.

Q : I heard that the trainee period is long?

CH : I guess it’s about five years.

KJ : My period as a trainee is about 9 to 10 years.

CH : Kwangjin is 10 years, Jaehyun is 9 years, Seunghyub and I both 5 years!

Q : The origin of “N.Flying” band name?

SH : N.Flying itself means “New Flying” “Next Flying”, but then “New Trend Band” has been put to it. It’s that the band who find a new flight!

Q : Who decided the name?

Everyone : We decided it together with the agency!

Q : N.Flying is a “New Trend Band” with rap and hip-hop, and even rap in Japanese, isn’t it difficult?

SH : Since I’m a rapper, I should rap the lyrics which originally made by myself.  But, in my current Japanese level, I still think it’s difficult to express (or, represent a song) in Japanese. So, when I’m working (on a song), I wrote the lyrics in Korean first, and by having a communication it helps me to fix my Japanese pronunciations, so does with my rap. So there’s no problem rapping in Japanese, but, still, it’s hard to make it 100% by myself.

Q : So, you still studying Japanese up until now?

SH : Studying Japanese has been really hard…but I don’t really mean that, I’m still studying now!

KJ : Oh! A little correction! When we had our indie activities in Japan, there was a Japanese teacher coming to teach us Japanese in every week. But ever since we’re mainly living in South Korea, and the time difference* in South Korea, I can’t continue to study Japanese really well. But I’m in charge of studying Japanese because I’ve been learning it first, other members can’t easily be ordered to learn, so some words are forgotten. But we’ll study Japanese harder from now!

*KJ can be refer to the time difference of having activities or schedule between in South Korea and in Japan

Q : What is your favorite Japanese word?

CH : It’s a word that’s in my thought, “Summer Snow” (Natsu no Yuki). It has a mysterious feel which I like!

SH : Mine is “ stomach’s grovel (the sound of starving)” (pekopeko) (laughs)!

JH : Mine is “Fermented Soybeans” (Nattou)! Ah, I like it very much!

CH : It’s not a meat?

JH : Nattou!

SH : I’m meat!

KJ : I like “Love” (Ai) the most. Also “Like it very much” (Daisuki). And also, I have a word made by myself. It’s “Ari Ari”! Meanwhile in Korea “Kamsahamnida” is going to be “Kamsa Kamsa”!  And “Arigatougozaimasu” is slightly long, so I made it “Ari Ari”! And I also told it to my fans (laugh)! This “Ari Ari”, you got it?

CH : But there’s also a word “Ari” which means “Here”!

KJ : For N.Flying fans, it’ll be very interesting to be said (laugh)!

CH : Ah! But you  know there’s “Azaasu” *right? (laugh)!

*Azaasu is an abbreviation of “Arigatougozaimasu”

KJ : But for “Ari Ari”, I thought that it would feel closer to say it from Korean.

Q : Just now you talked about “Fermented Soybeans” (Nattou) as your favorite, can you tell me members’ favorite Japanese food?

JH : Still, it’s Beef Bowl and Fermented Soybeans (laugh)! Cow!

CH : Words that combines Beef Bowl and Fermented Soybeans is Cow (laughs)!

JH : Beef Bowl and Fermented Soybeans are better to be eaten together (laughs)!

SH : Mine is a bowl of Yoshinoya Beef’s short ribs! Ah…  (forgot to hide down the name LOL!!!) …it’s a rib bowl (laugh)! Then Steak!

JH : Ah… Steak!

CH : You’re right! Steak too!

KJ : Japanese foods are delicious!

CH : Because a man like meat the most!

Q : In 2013 you had activities as an indie, Korean debut on May 2015, and have major debut “Knock Knock” in February 2016 here in Japan. How do you feel about Japan debut?

KJ : Our music never change, ever since as an indie or when having major debut like this still the same. But to be able to meet Japanese fans who waited for a long time and to be able to listen to a song of our new album I just feel excited!

Q : What do you think about Japanese fans?

Everyone : Ari Ari!

CH : I always feel grateful!

SH : It’s inspiring. And why I say it, because the past two years we weren’t that active in such a big way in Japan, and also not even in a situation that we can frequently meet.  But we’re always on N.Flying official Korean fan café (fan club homepage), there’s more Japanese who have join, and hardly wrote a letter in Korean. That’s very inspiring. I also can join and leave a sentence there. Once I went to the place which operates fan café, it’s not possible to leave a sentence there if it hasn’t leveled up. I guess it’s quite difficult to do for Japanese. But I’m very thankful that you can do it up to there.

KJ : Today our fans also came to the airport.

Q : You co-starred with Mr. vocalist Mitsuru Matsuoka of SOPHIA by live broadcasting in July, how was it?

JH : It was really fun!

SH : We were covering Mitsuru Matsuoka’s Band “MICHAEL” song, and I was asked to stand together on stage! At that time, we were standing on the opening stage, but I could feel the “MICHAEL” spirit. Ever since we were standing in front of “MICHAEL”’s fans on stage, but everyone greeted us very warmly. The fact that there’s such fans like that, I thought it’s because we have an effort that’s being done by us and it’s wonderful. We want to become such a wonderful band!

CH : And at that time, Jaehyun and I have birthday, “MICHAEL”s prepared a big cake and said “Congratulation!” on the stage! I celebrate it myself! It was truly impressing!

KJ : And later when the performance has ended, Mr. “MICHAEL”  was much interested in us. And if they’re going to go to South Korea, he told me that he want to have a performance collaboration with N.Flying. We also want to have a performance together with “MICHAEL” if we have the opportunity! We want to meet you!

Q : You appeared on “2015 FNC KINGDOM IN JAPAN” which was held on December 12th and 13th at the end of last year, with FTISLAND, CNBLUE, AOA and JUNIEL were also appeared, what did you speak about (when you’re with them)?

CH : When we had our rehearsal, seniors always came to us, and always said where is this, where is that, it isn’t good, or, this is better, and, I asked to play guitar then they always gave advice!

KJ : Since we meet them almost in everyday, we have a good relationship. But recently we’re busy and couldn’t meet that often. But when they have time, they’ll come to N.Flying studio and give us various advices!

SH : I really like them!

KJ : Maybe the seniors also like us too (laugh)!

CH : It’s almost like a family!

JH : Big brother!

Q : From advices you’ve received, is there any words which remains as an impression to you?

CH : I got a lot of advice. There’s one advice which FTISLAND’s Hongki senior always say. It’s “Even if you’re not well prepared, as long as you’re solid and ready, you have to keep jammed on it. Be a kind band” he said. And at the same time when I see the seniors in stage, it got me like, aaah, we need to practice and work hard.

KJ : Also, CNBLUE’s Yonghwa senior often come to our practice room to see us and give some advice. Yonghwa senior said how to communicate with fans when standing in front of stage, “The moment when you’re on stage, make it all yours. So, you can enjoy it!”. Also, Yonghwa senior give a lot advices to Seunghyub.

SH : Really, it’s many!

JH : Guitarist Jonghyun senior told us, “When standing on stage, singing 13 songs feels like we just sing 3 songs. But when come down from the stage, I can immediately feel that we really sang 30 songs.”

SH : Even if that’s 23 songs, 33 songs, 103 songs…

JH : 103 songs is hard (laugh). He also said that when we’re on the stage, all of our energy runs out more.

Q : You get along good with the seniors like a family, even when you’re on a serious discussion about music?

CH : Yes. If you thought that we’re trying to brag our seniors, no, it’s not. We’re really receive a lot of love, it never ends.

JH : It’ll need much time if talking about that, you’ll turn the camera on for 5 hours (laugh)

Q : At the end, please send message to TV Groove readers.

Hello TV Groove viewers! We’re N.Flying!

SH : I see you look happy right? We have finally finished our indie era, and now we’re going to have a debut in Japan on February! For the fans who have waited for us after 2 years not having activities in Japan, we really want to see you! I’d like to show you all a nice live on February 10th which we’ve prepared!

JH : It happened really fast! It’s like a blink of an eye. Please wait for our song and creation!

KJ : It will “Knock Knock” your heart!

CH : Since everyone had been waiting for us for a long time, we’ll come back with a nice and beautiful song! Please wait for it!

[TRANS] N.Flying for MuMo Shop Japan Interview Pick Up Artist Vol. 14

Please tell us your honest feeling when the Japan debut was decided.

I was really excited. While we do our activities, and keep repeating lessons in Korea, the life in Japan feels nostalgic. I remember the time when I had club performances and live stages in Japan, also feel homesick, and when I heard about to debut in Japan, it all became more nostalgic and I was very happy.

When the Japan debut was decided, I remembered one by one the days of our indie era in Japan. When the CD named “N.Flying” was released and sold for the first time, it was a very  precious and important memory for us. And also, this time, about we are able to have major debut in Japan, I think it’s also because we have wonderful memories during our time as an indie. To fans who have waiting for us up until now, I really want to say thank you!

There are a lot of memories in Japan during our indie era, and when I heard about having a major debut, I feel strange. The tension is similar like when we were debuted in Korea but I also feel excited at the same time!

It feels like we started an indie life in Japan just yesterday, but when we officially debut (have a major debut), all I can think is “a long time has passed, and we really had a lot of things.”

Could you tell me whether there are points of Japan major debut single Knock Knock (Japanese Ver.) and an anecdote (untold story or such) while recording in Japanese?

There’s a part when I sing “Knock Knock” repeatedly, you can copy and sing it easily, it has become an interesting point for me, so when you can hear that part, I feel happy. Actually, when we do live, we sing “Knock Knock” part a lot with our fans. At the time of recording, I can’t pronounce “Zu” in Japanese well, so I need to practice a lot…(laugh).

Singing in Japanese with N.Flying members while preparing for the Japan debut was also a new mood and felt like being new again. It’s hard to remember Japanese language and I had to practice in many times. But when I’ve been accustomed to the Japanese lyrics, I noticed the fact that Japanese lyrics match this song very well and I was very happy!

Even I like all parts of the song, the bridge part has an impact and left a deep impression.

I think the part when we shout “Knock Knock” is the point. I think at this part we can sing and jumping together. As long as everyone enjoy it together, I feel happy!

Please tell me your sights/thoughts about filming the (Knock Knock) MV

The MV filming was very different then when we’re filming MV in Korea. The time (duration) for filming was shortened, and the progress was very fast. It was a bit in rush, but I think the filming itself was fun since I can go around various places in Japan.

For the N.Flying Japan debut MV, I’ve been put the sense of “Knock Knock” in Tokyo. To fit in that sense, I was trying to shoot the powerful music video. I’d feel glad if you could see the energy of N.Flying (at the MV).

Actually, the amplifier was connected (during the filming), so it’s the most memorable for me to keep playing guitar in every break (while filming)

Since I’m a drummer, I have a longer ‘take’ time in all parts. So, the break time is also short, but when I saw it was completed, the result even made me feels like this is the best MV!

Do you have any advice from senior FTISLAND and CNBLUE for having a Japan debut?

Seniors always give good advice(s) to us. Their advice for a Japanese debut is somewhat difficult, but they always give us many messages about how to have a feeling as a band. With saying nothing, they have given us the power even just by watching us!

When we heard about FTISLAND and CNBLUE seniors’ story for a Japan major debut, it reminds me to the old life in Japan. Seniors also experienced an indie era just like us, and having a Japan major debut, but when heard about it I feel nervous. There are a lot of things that I can relate when I’m listening to seniors’ life in Japan.

I don’t say it only because it’s for the Japanese debut, but FTISLAND and CNBLUE seniors always give us advices and love us affectionately.

When we were having indie activities in Japan, seniors gave a lot advices to me. At that time, I remember they said to “not forget the original intention”. And when we did live performances, they always see us and gave feedback to parts where aren’t good enough, and I think it was possible to be making up with the favor.

Is there any deep impression while having indie activities in Japan back then?

When communicating with fans who came to see us perform live, after all, are the most memorable one. Of course, at that time, I had a live without knowing anything, but thanks to those who have come to our live performance back then, I think I was able to grow since then. I still feel grateful even now!

When we played live as an opening act for FTISLAND and CNBLUE seniors, and when released an album as N.Flying are the most memorable for me. I learned a lot while watching the seniors closely, they’re unlike usual, they’re full of charisma while standing on the stage. We were also getting a lot of advices, which is a big chance for us to grow. I’d think that memories of that time can’t be replaced with anything else.

Everything is a nice memory, of course, but the first time being on the stage of FNC KINGDOM has left the most memory. I will never forget a memory of that day when all FNC artists gathered in one stage.

Everything is memorable. Especially when we had a hard time together, while having played about 6 months, every day of that time really remains in my memory.

There are also many bands in Japan, but is there any artist which music you often heard to or you’ve watch its live performances?

It is a really lot of learning especially through the “J-Rock” genre, even if you think there is place to learn from all the people who have the band in Japan. Without doing a silly prejudice, I decided to listen to a lot of music as much as possible. Actually, I also went to see a live stage of BUMP OF CHICKEN and Lyu:Lyu, it was really good!

It was a band called Lyu:Lyu band which I saw for the first time on “COUNTDOWN JAPAN 15 / 16”. While watch them live, I was really thinking about a lot of things in the musical surface, there were a lot of things to reflect on. Also, I often listening to ONE OK ROCK’s songs.

I decided to listen to as much songs as possible rather than often to heard about the artists itself. I went to see stages about 2-3 times when living in Japan. But when I stood in the opening stage of FTISLAND and CNBLUE seniors, I think that has become the biggest study.

Finally, at the end, please tell fans in Japan a thankyou message and tell your target for activities in Japan in the future.

The goal for Japan activities, of course, it’d be glad if we leave a good impression to everyone and make people love our music! There would be a possibility we get nervous and alone for the first time in the major stage, but I’ll show you that N.Flying growing as a band! Then, I want to show you all the cool music so I won’t disappoint fans who had kindly waited up to this!

Japanese fans! Now we finally have a major debut in Japan! Thank you for waiting N.Flying musics! Those who always next to us are really appreciated. Also, give a lot of interest for it (Japan debut)! And, once again, I want to convey the feelings of gratitude for you all!

To Japanese fans, I’m really grateful for everything. I want to become a cool and nice band deserved by the seniors who not only have helped me in musical terms, but also in terms of human, so we can grow together. Please expect it and support us a lot!

To have activities in Japan is our goal. It is the best goal to make music which has more sense of intimacy. If fans listen to our music comfortably like my close friend, I’d also be happy!
